Official Philanthropy - The National Indian Education Association

 

The National Indian Education Association is membership based organization committed to increasing educational opportunities and resources for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian students while protecting our cultural and linguistic traditions. 

 

Incorporated in 1970, NIEA is the largest and oldest Indian education organization in the nation and strives to keep Indian Country moving toward educational equity. Governed by a Board of Directors made up of 12 representatives, the NIEA has several committees that work to ensure native educators and students are represented in various educational institutions and forums throughout Indian Country and Washington, D.C.

Native American Heritage Month

The sorority holds annual events for Native Heritage Month, often in conjuction with other Native organizations. We hope to see you at an event soon.

Talking Medicine Circles

Alpha Pi Omega Sorority co-hosts Talking Medicine Circles with the University of Arizona School of Public Health every fall and spring. 

Fall 2013: Oct. 18th

Spring 2015: Feb. 20th 

 

Regular Talking Circles are also held for sisters and interested women.

Mentoring Programs

The sisters regularly participate in mentoring youth with organizations such as the Society for Chicanos & Native Americans in Science(SACNAS), American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) and others.
